National News: The Punjab government is continuously taking new initiatives in the fields of education and health. To connect learning with well-being, it has decided to turn Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) into a part of a health awareness campaign. A special ‘Hypertension and Mental Health Awareness Drive’ will be held on October 17 during PTMs in all government schools of Ludhiana district. The aim is to make parents aware of the dangers of high blood pressure and mental health problems.

Education Linked with Public Health

This people-focused campaign is being run jointly by the Punjab government and Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Ludhiana. Under Mission Swasth Kavach, schools are being turned into not just places of learning but also centers for community health. The goal is to spread health awareness from students to families and then to society as a whole.

BP Checkups During PTM

Deputy District Education Officer (Secondary) Amandeep Singh has asked all schools to check the blood pressure of at least 100 parents or visitors. Teachers and students trained in First Aid under Mission Swasth Kavach will help in this work. Each person’s BP will be measured three times to make sure the readings are correct and reliable.

Promoting Mental Health and Responsibility

Amandeep Singh said that every school now has its own blood pressure machine. This program will spread awareness about both physical fitness and mental well-being. It will also teach students the value of social service and care for others.

Health Mentors to Lead the Program

Each school’s Health Mentor will guide the event and organize the health checkup camp with students’ help. Schools will record and submit data through Google Forms. The Education Department has made it clear that if any school shows carelessness, the head of that school will be held responsible. The government believes this plan truly shows the idea of “education and health—two benefits in one day.” Parents will be able to check their health while discussing their child’s progress. A healthy and mentally strong parent helps raise a better learner, showing the real meaning of development. This special effort by Ludhiana district could become an example for the whole of Punjab. It will spread awareness about hypertension and mental health while encouraging students to be socially responsible. The Punjab government’s goal is clear—education and health should go hand in hand for complete growth.
